Who says a green way of sustainable tourism doesn’t bring results, we have just won our second award this year this time for displaying the highest calibre of entrepreneurship at the Jamaican leg of the Pioneers of Prosperity Awards!
Hotel Mockingbird Hill Jamaica’s favourite airy eco-boutique hotel located in tranquil Port Antonio was awarded an Honorable Mention by Pioneers of Prosperity and a grant of US 10,000. The ‘Pioneers of Prosperity’ programme seeks to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs in emerging economies by identifying, rewarding and promoting outstanding SMEs who will serve as role models to their peers in emerging economies within Africa & the Caribbean. It is sponsored by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the IDB, the JohnTempleton Foundation and the Social Equity Venture Fund (S.E.VEN Fund).
Ken Hynes, Managing Director of the OTF Group helped to decide which of the 155 Jamaican entries fulfilled the criteria of targeting specific customers and offering a specialised product, being profitable, treating employees as important assets and enriching the communities in which they operate. We were so glad to hear his closing remarks about how “each of the winning businesses represent a message to the investment community that there are a lot of dynamic businesses and good things going on in the region and it is not all doom and gloom”.
It was also wonderful to hear Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment & Commerce declare all 3 winners “shining examples of what can be achieved with the right level of dedication”.
Our congratulations to the nationwide winners that will be going forward to the Caribbean final: Sandra Samuels, Managing Director of Totally Male & Silburn Clarke, President/CEO of Spatial Innovision.
