“We recently spent 5 enjoyable days at Hotel Mockingbird Hill. In addition to lovely and comfortable accommodations, fine food, and warm hospitality, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the grounds of the hotel, including the extensive and beautiful gardens, provided exceptional birding. We found 22 endemics, 15 species of warblers, and more than 60 bird species overall without leaving the property. Spectacular!”

“To the staff of the Mocking Bird Hill Hotel!
Thank you for a wonderful stay for me and my son. We enjoyed the stay and the four days ran too fast.
We will with pleasure remember your kindness and hospitality, and we were very pleased for your suggestions for small daytrips from the hotel. Birds, beach and rafting.”

“Wonderful scenery, generous hospitality and the best coffee in the world – oh, and some of the most fascinating birds you’ll ever see. A visit to Jamaica is quite simply unforgettable. From the streamertails and lizard-cuckoos at Mockingbird Hill to the 26 other unique endemics found all over the island, it’s a birder’s paradise.”

“Our recent stay in the Hotel Mockingbird was a truly wonderful experience. Arriving in the evening we were met by an unbelievable cacophony of night noises and a truly warm welcome by the staff. A light supper had been prepared for us and we were shown to a beautiful spacious room overlooking the lush tropical garden. That was just the start. This delightful boutique hotel is so friendly you soon feel at home and there were many personal touches throughout our stay that made our experience very special.
The owners Barbara and Shireen are always on hand to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Enjoying our rum punch on the veranda overlooking the garden and beyond to Port Antonio, we watched the weather change in the skies above and around. It was a place to rest and relax and enjoy Jamaican hospitality with great comfort. The chef produced wonderful meals and the organic breakfasts are truly a holiday treat. It is also a place where many of Jamaica’s endemic birds can easily be seen in the garden.
This wonderful hotel must be visited for its setting, location, beautiful accommodation, delicious fare, friendliness and personal service. Jamaica is a truly beautiful Caribbean island, covered in lush and exotic vegetation and our stay was a wonderful stress-free experience.”

“Rockjumper Worldwide Birding Adventures would like to reiterate what a marvelous destination Jamaica is for travel. As stated in our most recent trip report, ‘Our tour through the mountainous island of Jamaica offered a vast diversity of habitats from the evergreen forests of the Blue Mountains to the beaches and ultramarine waters of the coast. We successfully located all 28 of Jamaica’s endemic bird species while allowing time to soak in the unique atmosphere of the personalized lodges and resorts where we stayed, enjoy some fine river-rafting, partake in the flavorful tastes of the local cuisine, and immerse ourselves in some awesome scuba diving.’ We would especially like to thank Mockingbird Hill for their outstanding services.”

“To the Mocking Bird Team,
Thank you for the wonderful experience here in Jamaica. You have a lovely property and being in the best part of one of the most beautiful countries makes it that much better. Of course, a building is just a building and a hotel just a hotel. It is the people who make the difference. You all made this place even more special with your service and dedication to guests.
“The experience was wonderful – from the cheerful “ Good Mornings” to the fabulous cuisine. Each of you have a special role to play as “actors” here at Mocking Bird Hill and you all together, demonstrated a desire to make us feel right at home.”
Again “Mille” thanks!

“Thank you to Shireen, Barbara & all the staff at Mockingbird Hill,
As seasoned visitors to Jamaica and having spent the first half of our trip at an all-inclusive resort in Ocho Rios, it was a pleasure and a relief to exchange this tourist hotspot for the genial town of Port Antonio. As we headed East with driver Cliff (a real character) the combination of his easy conversation and passing picture postcard landscapes, ensured that we were quickly reconnected with the ‘Real Jamaica’.
Mockingbird Hill compliments the peace and tranquillity of Port Antonio perfectly. High in the hills above the town, the property is set within lush tropical gardens and offers beautiful vistas of this East coast gem.
From market to table our cookery class with Virginia Burke and Mockingbird Hill’s chef Melvin Laidlaw was a pleasure. From an enjoyable visit to Port Antonio’s colourful and friendly market, to our class – the preparation of a ‘jerk’ lunch menu within the hotel’s tropical garden setting. Completed by a long leisurely lunch at Mille Fleurs, this was a lovely Caribbean culinary experience which was informative and full of good cooking tips & advise.
At Mockingbird Hill you’re never far from stunning local beaches or for those of you who enjoy nature and a really great cup of coffee, Jamaica’s Blue Mountains (home to the famous coffee bean). We took advantage of both and would thoroughly recommend it.
If you enjoy beautiful scenery, great food and would like to experience true Jamaican culture we would thoroughly recommend Port Antonio and Mockingbird Hill.”

“Dear Shireen & Barbara
We want to thank you specially for all that you and your staff did for us on our Christmas vacation to Hotel Mockingbird Hill. If we are fortunate enough to come back to Jamaica, we will most definitely come back to your hotel and no other!
We hope you don’t mind that we provide you also with feedback on some “ancillary” items from our trip and stay in Port Antonio as well, and hope you find it helpful for your future visitors:
- Neijer, our guide for the waterfall hike, is hands down the best guide. He was so knowledgeable, helpful, and after the hike he took us to his house where his wife had prepared coconut bread, he chopped fresh coconuts and fruits off his own trees to give to us. If you haven’t used him before, we recommend no other.
- Cliff is the best. Don’t ever let him go! He worked tirelessly and long hours to accommodate us. Please extend our greatest thanks once again to him!
- Ricardo Miller, our bird guide…. we had no idea he was one of the photographers of “Birds of Jamaica”, a popular book I had gotten for our trip. All of the guides that you arranged for were incredible, and we thank you for this special touch, as we believe you provided us with “off the beaten path” type of tours which are always better than “touristy tours”.
- I personally recommend a cookbook of recipes from Mille Fleurs! I thank you for the recipes provided in the room – that was an extra fun bonus! However, since the food we experienced there, I have been searching for recipes and fresh ingredients similar to what we ate there and so far I haven’t found anything quite as good.
In short, your hotel, the food, the service, and all the extra services like coordinating our tours, have set the bar very high for our future travels to other places. I know that we will forever compare other places we visit to the #1 category of these items that you have set!
All our best wishes to you and your staff for a very happy and prosperous new year!
Thank you again,”Dave & Stephanie, Alabama
“Dear Friends at Mocking Bird Hill,
What a difference a day makes! We thought you would be interested to see the weather we returned home to. It’s very typical for this time of year.
Thank you so much for a wonderful week at your Jamaican Paradise. We could not have had a more pleasant and fun family holiday.
And thank you for the fruit and cheese sandwiches you sent with us to the airport. With all the security delays, we were sitting on airplanes on the tarmac for many hours, or racing through JFK to try to catch our connection, so those treats sustained us through the day.
Best wishes to All of You”, Barbara & Brian, New York
