Escape the Grey, Snow & Polar Vortex – 5 Reasons to Head to Jamaica

/ Featured Offers

Feeling cold, fed-up with the winter grey or desperate to escape the Polar vortex that is camped out over the east coast of Northern America or floods in the UK?

Anyone who has seen the film Cool Runnings about the Jamaican Bob Sled team knows that the Jamaican spirit is sun-led; warm bones & minds create amazing athletes, incredible reggae and delicious fusion cuisine bursting with the flavours of Africa, India, China & Europe cunningly wrought together by these Caribbean Islanders.

If your bones are in need of a Caribbean winter, dappled sun away from the icy torments of a northern hemisphere chill, we invite you to jump on a lo-cost flight  for a long weekend to our oasis in Port Antonio, North East Jamaica to savour a backdrop of the Blue Mountains, swim in a warm Caribbean Sea and explore our lush rain forests, raft on our rivers and of course drink lots of the world’s best coffee grown high in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains.

1. Free Upgrade & Complimentary Breakfast Served in your Room

Deluxe room balcony

For those booking for the month of January, Hotel Mockingbird Hill will offer you complimentary breakfast in your upgraded room for free! Garden room reservations will be upgraded to superior rooms, and superior rooms will where possible be upgraded to deluxe rooms and as usual include free beach shuttle to Frenchman’s Cove.

2. Indulge in Skinny Chocolate that Won’t Break New Year Diets

Chocolate is to winter as lemons are to summer, and even Jamaicans in our sunshine filled winter indulge in a skinny version that won’t break New Year diets by drinking Chocolate Tea.

Chocolate Tea BallsJamaican Chocolate Tea is more akin to the original Aztec interpretation of drinking chocolate, made from locally harvested cocoa beans that have been dried, and then ground with other spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg.  Shaped into balls and dried this is then grated into hot water with sugar (optional), vanilla essence and sometimes a little orange rind to taste, delicious!  Not only do Hotel Mockingbird Hill provide the chocolate balls as a free room gift, but if you like them and want to use them as your skinny chocolate treat we can take you to meet the local ladies cooperative that makes them so you can buy a few at source to take home to healthily see out the winter.

3. Free Bottle of Homemade Pimento Liqueur to Take Home to Blast Away the Chill

If you snap a photo drinking our famous Pimento Liqueur from the bar, or one of your many morning  cups of Blue Mountain coffee in the morning from the Mille Fleurs Restaurant, tag it on Social Media #jamaicabliss and you’ll receive a bottle of our Chef Barbara’s Pimento Liqueur to take home that will nip in the bud any icy blasts coming your way.

4. Sunshine Filled Sunday Yoga

Join our al-fresco Sunday morning yoga class with Kedela that meets on either the lawn or the deck depending on numbers for some Korean Sun do yoga, just US$12.00 per class.  It is the perfect way to welcome in a new week and realise that despite Christmas misgivings your body is a lot better than you perhaps give it credit for!

5. Attend the Ochos Rios Rebel Salute Reggae Festival

Rebel Salute

If you’re a fan of reggae you can attend Jamaica’s reggae ‘only’ festival on the 17th & 18th January.  No R&B, dancehall just pure sublime reggae with reggae legends lined up on both days.  We advise flying to Montego Bay, catching the wonderfully cheap and fast Knutsford Express to Ochos Rios to enjoy the festival and then continue along the coast to Port Antonio to stay at Mocking Bird Hill.
