Drumming up a Good Story on a Saturday Night

/ Whats on Jamaica

Charles Town DrummersIf you are in Kingston on Saturday 13th June and are partial to some laid-back storytelling, we recommend a visit up to Red Bones Cafe for the evening from 8.00 pm.

Here you can sit back enjoy some great rythmic Maroon drumming by Portland’s finest drummers the Charles Town Drummers; for those that haven’t heard of this before it’s in the style of Ghanian-style drumming.

If you can’t get to see them here come along up to Charles Town just outside Port Antonio for Monday 22nd June when they will be putting on a performace for the evening celebrations of the First International Maroon Convention.  Go along and snack on the finest jerk chicken & pork which the local community will be providing to help celebrations along.  The evening is free and  but expect to pay approximately €20 for food and beer. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the real sounds of Jamaica less the sound system whilst discovering the delights of Bammy, every ex-pat  Jamaican’s favourite food when they think of home from far away.

To get a taste of the hypnotic Maroon drumming and find out a little more about Jamaica’s first free town take a look at their website there are some great videos to learn a little more about the Maroons.
