Calling all foodies and fans of discerning recipes that require a touch of authentic spice. We’re inviting cooks that question their spice bottle of brightly coloured granules that resembles neither the look or taste of their freshly ground spice cousins to consider a spice run to Jamaica.
Come to Hotel Mockingbird Hill’s favourite daily local market in Port Antonio and meet Jamaica’s spice Mamas. Hear their personal stories about the cultivation and harvesting of their spices and and their recipe tips and local remedies to alleviate the symptoms of coughs, colds and allergies.
Stock up on cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, allspice, peppercorns (black, green or red), dried chilies, turmeric, Jerk seasoning and even sweet vanilla that is sourced direct from Elan Vanilla Farm at nearby Hope Bay.
You may also like to take home our Jamaican chocolate tea balls to help you warm up on a chilly day… Jamaica’s chocolate recipe was tasted by Sir Hans Sloanes in the C17th, tweaked to a version for his own palate, which was then used to create the world famous Cadbury’s chocolate!
Drop us an email if you would like to combine a short spice run break to Jamaica and perhaps a cookery class with our chef Barbara on how to use spices in our local fusion cuisine.
Return flights from New York start at US$219 in March.
