Sustainability – Guiltless Indulgence
Jamaica’s Best Green Hotel: 21 International Awards Recognising its Environmental Contribution
Voted “Best Hotel for the Environment” 2010 by Responsible Travel & Virgin International
Everything at Mocking Bird Hill is planned with nature and the local community at the forefront and it is managed with a dedicated concern for the environment and for promoting sustainable tourism. The hotel was one of the first hotels in the world to be certified as environmentally friendly. Hence solar water-heating, which the hotel has used since its opening in 1993, no water or other beverages in plastic bottles; the stationery in the guest rooms is made from recycled paper by a women’s cooperative in a nearby village; the toiletries in the bathrooms are also produced locally, we count our food miles, have a carbon offsetting programme and use renewable energy.
Sustainable Tourism provides fair economic returns to local communities and minimises negative impacts on local culture, the environment, natural resources and on wildlife habitats and species and it recognises and mitigates the impact of travel on global warming. For this reason, we offer the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions generated through your travels.
Mission Statement:
To provide high quality responsible tourism that enhances guest comfort and experience while minimising environmental impact and maximising benefits to the community.
